Getting Paid to Show Advertisements on Your Site
Paid Advertising Revenue
Getting advertisers to pay us to put their ads on our sites is something that we all dream about
as website owners. Your website will need to be pretty big and getting really substantial traffic, or
at least have a good business and PR plan for getting the traffic if you stand a chance of convincing
advertisers to pay for a spot on your site.
If you are just starting out and your site is not getting much traffic at this point, there are still some
things that you can do to improve your attractiveness to advertisers. Advertisers know the "demographic"
of the people their advertisements and products are targeted at - in other words they know "who" they
want to see their ads because they know who is interested in the products they are promoting.
Plan for the Future - Get Users to Register on Your Site
You can improve your chances of getting some good advertising contracts in the future by getting your users to sign up as
registered members. Getting registered members is great because you get their email address as well as some
other information during the registration process. If your members have elected to receive your newsletters
and promotional emails, you can send them email offers occasionally and advertisers will be interested in learning
how big your circulation is and how effective your email marketing campaigns have been.
Email advertising is one way of advertising but it is not the prefered method since most people regard
any form of email advertisement as SPAM or unsolicited bulk email (UBE) even if they agreed to get your email
offers. What you are really after is lots of traffic on your site
and collecting lots of demographic information on your membership community.
The more information about your members that you can collect on your
website via the registration process, online surveys, or opinion polls, the more
convincing you will be to advertisers who are targeting the type of people who use your website.
Collecting User Data
When designing a strategy to collect information about your users, you should be careful and cautious because people
are not stupid and they don't like it if you are requesting too much information. There is a fine
balancing point that you will want to find in terms of getting good demographic information without
offending people or discouraging them from coming back to your site.
